Back to school – Learn to shape, connect and colour metals for jewellery

You’ve got the maker’s mindset – so let’s create!

What are you doing on Tuesday nights? Or Wednesday and Thursday nights, for that matter? Would you like to immerse yourself in the making process? Would you like to add some beauty to the world? At Flux we solve small problems, to mighty effect. This term we learn to shape, connect and colour metals for jewellery.

Our Spring 2017 term begins on 17 January, and we have some really fantastic courses that promise to shake you from winter’s slumber.

Evening courses at Flux

hollow forming, making lockets and bead pendants. Spring 2017 courses at Flux For our evening courses we draw focus to ways of shaping metal to create 3D and hollow forms.

At the beginners level we introduce doming, bending, scoring and folding alongside the core skills in jewellerymaking – texturing, measuring, piercing, soldering, filing, polishing. More info here

Intermediate students – We carry forward your knowledge of basic forming techniques to explore how hinges and clasps can turn hollow forms into more intricate jewellery items like lockets, bottles or boxes. More info here

For more advanced students we begin to explore methods of small batch production for hollow ware. Using the fly press we introduce methods of making simple tools and jigs that enable us to transform sheet metal into repeatable forms for beads, pendants, boxes and lockets. More info here
