Creative approaches to chain making – for necklaces, earrings and bracelets (B34)

Wednesday 18 September 2019 @ 6:15 pm - Wednesday 27 November 2019 @ 9:15 pm

Chains and Links

Make exceptional jewellery. Explore creative approaches to chain making, linkages and other moveable joints. (Evenings, Wednesdays)

This 10 week course introduces numerous linkage techniques for jewellery, adding flexibility, security –  and visual delight –  to your designs.

To begin, we explore the value and purpose of linkages in our jewellery. How does a pendant hang against the chest? Do your earrings move? How does a bracelet fit around the wrist? In seeking answers to our queries, a new window opens in your jewellery vision… welcome to the art of chain making, linkages, moveable joints!

What will I make?

You will have the opportunity to make a necklace, a bracelet or earrings from your newly inspired designs, to include repeating, relating or random links.   If you’re already working on other projects you may prefer just to test these new techniques, for future reference.

What will I learn?

The course is presented in short experimental projects that develop technical skills and creative vision. You will have the option to experiment with new ways to make chains, also exploring how to make rivets, links and screws to join elements together in your jewellery designs.

By the end of the course you will add creative chain making to your repertoire of techniques!

Is this course for me?

Yes! With chain making, linkages, moveable joints as key , we’ve structured this course to suit people with all levels of jewellery making skill. So, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student, we know you’ll find new creative stimuli to inspire your jewellery design and making! You can flit through an evolutionary 10 weeks of trials and tests to explore linkages in all shapes and forms. You might choose to incorporate  stone settings in your design. Perhaps you need to work with other projects already at hand? Pick and choose your way through the projects,  integrate linkages where appropriate.
