What to do with your broken bling? Make silver jewellery from it!
Delighted to see that our students are getting very adept at recording their processes when making work; this week Juliette is our featured Tuesday Maker! Starting with some beautiful shell forms to make moulds, here you can see how Juliette has prepared the sprue and airways in the upper part of the mould.
All that scrap silver she has collected has been put to good use here; the next tricky job is to cut away the sprue After much cutting and filing here is the final, fantastic result….
Having applied a matt finish to her 3 shell forms, Juliette oxidized the silver to accentuate the spiral forms here. The larger circular element cleverly acts as the fastening loop for the necklace. It’s another successful example of how we can use studio casting techniques to create beautiful and unique jewellery. Well done Juliette 🙂
This shell form and technique led Juliette on to make a series of related silver rings – a new collection is emerging!
