Advanced DAY Silver Jewellery Course 14 Jan 2014 (casting)

Course Description: Casting Techniques. A17. Explore a range of studio based casting techniques including cuttlefish and delft casting. Work with pewter for combining with plastics, wood and glass for colour – or  to develop prototypes for mould making. Recycle scrap and unwanted silver; smelt and pour into your own made moulds for reincarnation! Learn how to work with wax and how to prepare it for lost wax casting.

Tue mornings, 10 – 1pm for 10 weeks

The course is presented in 3 projects that focus on an alternative approach to developing ideas for your jewellery, while also expanding technical skills.

  • Project 1 – Cuttlefish Casting techniques
  • Project 2 – Delft casting techniques
  • Project 3 – Working with wax

By the end of this course you will know how to make an effective mould from cuttlefish and cast pewter or silver into it, make an effective meld from Delft sand and cast pewter or silver into it, make an original in wax, ready to send for lost wax casting – and you will have designed and made 3 pieces of cast jewellery.
