Advanced Course: Wax techniques for jewellery making/ personal project development

– On this 10 week jewellery course you will have the opportunity to explore a range of wax techniques for jewellery making, including how to make one- off models for lost wax casting. Understand how size and dimension affects the weight of your final piece in various metals and learn how to reduce weight without compromising the visual impact of your design. Design and carve a ring in wax to include a stone of your choice.
- Project 1 – Wax carving: design and carve a ring in wax; incorporate a stone setting.
- Project 2 – Working with hot wax: make a one-off wax model for lost wax casting
In addition to the processes taught on this course each student will work to their own brief to improve their jewellery design skills and making techniques.
By the end of this course you will know how to:
Cut, carve and manipulate wax to realise your designs
Prepare your items for professional lost wax casting taking into consideration the constraints of the processes and materials involved.
And you will have designed and made several pieces of cast jewellery.
