Etching Techniques for Jewellery: 10 Week Course (Evening, Thu).
– On this course you will explore etching techniques for jewellery and their application, especially in relation to pattern-making and texturing. Learn about the range of mordants and resists, and the associated health and safety issues relating to their usage. Experiment with photo etching to transfer photographic images to metal.
- Project 1 – Experimentation – produce a range of test pieces that explore technique
- Project 2 – Design and make a cuff in copper
- Project 3 – Design and make an etched pendant in silver
By the end of this course you will know how to:
Prepare jewellery for etching
Use a range of resists and mordants to create a range of different effects.
Follow health and safety procedures when working with mordants and resists.
And you will have produced a reference / sample board of plates that explore the application of resists, as well as 2 pieces of etched jewellery that you have designed and made.
Max student numbers: 12 students with 2 tutors
