Course Details: Stone Setting Techniques for Jewellery. B18. Develop a range of alternative stone setting techniques for your jewellery. Learn how to gypsy set small stones into the surface of the metal; learn how to make a bezel cup and how to ‘chase’ a hollow into your metal to sink larger and unusual shaped stones into the metal surface; explore numerous ways to make a setting that gives movement to your stone.

The course is presented in 3 projects that focus on an alternative approach to developing ideas for your jewellery, while also expanding technical skills.
- Project 1 – Gypsy/Flush settings
- Project 2 – Bezel cup stone setting for unusual shaped stones
- Project 3 – Setting a stone that moves
By the end of this course you will know how to use traditional techniques to set small facetted stones into the surface of your jewellery, encapsulate unusually- shaped stones into your jewellery using repousse and chasing techniques, make a setting for a stone that allows movement by pivoting or by encapsulation – and you will have designed and made 3 pieces of jewellery with stones set into them.
Materials Fee: £15 to cover the cost of all non precious materials and consumables, payable on the first day of your course
