Learn the processes involved in recycling silver on this 10 week jewellery making course. Melt your old scraps and process the new metal into sheet or wire. Learn how to make a mould using delft sand to cast your recycled metal into a new piece of jewellery.
Recycling is a vital part of the jewellery making business. reducing waste and recycling scrap helps to reduce the negative impact of our industry on the environment. By recycling your own scrap you will also make savings on materials costs for your jewellery.
- Project 1 – How to identify precious metals, how to prepare, melt and cast scrap into ingots or bars; how to process into sheet and wire.
- Project 2 – Design a piece of jewellery to be cast using delft sand. Prepare a mould and cast scrap metal into your new design.
In addition to the processes taught on this course each student will work to their own brief to improve their jewellery design skills and making techniques.
