SUMMARY:Advanced Jewellery Making - Bead Setting and Pave (PB04)
DESCRIPTION:Advanced Jewellery Making – bead setting and pave: Weekend Course.\nBook Now\n-This course offers an introduction to bead setting and pave setting for gem-studded jewellery. Both these stone setting styles are advanced stone setting techniques that we frequently use in fine jewellery making. \nWhat will I learn?\nThese fine stone setting techniques require a high degree of precision in metal preparation and in procedure. Over 2 days you will be guided through the steps for successful setting\, and you’ll have time for extensive practice using a variety of cuts and styles. \nOnce introduced to these techniques you can explore their endless possibilities and apply them to your making and design process. Not restricted by the common cuts of gems you will discover new freedom in creating visually more complex jewellery. \nBoth techniques require the use of a graver to raise a grain and to fine-cut around your setting; keeping your graver sharp is an essential requirement for success and so we will also cover both the preparation of your tool and how to sharpen it. \nWhat will I produce?\nWe anticipate you will produce a series of stone settings that show progressive skill and accuracy in your application of the techniques. We encourage you to use non precious metals and cz stones for your practice\, and when your confidence is sufficient you can explore working with more precious materials. \nMaterials\nThe course fee covers the cost of all materials. Metals available for your use include brass\, copper and gilding metal. \nIf you do want to work with silver you may also bring your own precious materials to work with. \nCan I get my work hallmarked?\nWe are able to offer a hallmarking service for precious jewellery made at Flux. So if you  would like to have your work hallmarked with the Flux Studios hallmark this can be arranged at cost price \nWe’ll provide you with tea\, coffee and light refreshments throughout the weekend. You’ll need to bring some lunch. \nBook Now\nCourse Tutor: Elena Timbaliuc. An additional tutor will assist if more than 7 students enrol for this course \nStudent numbers: 6 to 10 \nCourse Date:  Sat 2 June to Sun 3 June 2018 \nClass Times: 10.00am – 5pm daily \nCourse fee: \nFull fee £225 \n*Concessions £200 \n* If you are on a low wage\, or in receipt of tax credits or other benefit you qualify for the Flux concessionary rate. This is a discretionary discount which we personally subsidise. Please consider how much you need this discount before choosing the concessionary option. \nDo you live in Southwark? \nYou may be entitled to a discounted fee. Check here for full details \nSouthwark Once £80 / Southwark Once concession £40 \nConcessionary Rates for Southwark Residents apply because of support from Southwark Council. \nBook Now

SUMMARY:Jewellery Inlay Techniques with Crushed Stone (CS04)
DESCRIPTION:Jewellery Inlay Techniques with Crushed Stone: Weekend Course: 2 Days (Sat-Sun).\nBook Now\nThis weekend course introduces students to the exciting art of inlaying crushed stones into silver collets of various shapes to add colour\, texture and vibrance to your jewellery. \nTraditional in Central and South America\, this jewellery inlay technique will allow you to create beautiful silver jewellery with rich and intense colour. \nThis process is an add-on technique for students with  intermediate to advanced silver jewellery making skills. \nWhat will I learn?\nWe begin with a rounded discussion about appropriate stones for this technique of crushed stone inlay. Some semi-precious stones are particularly hazardous in dust form. You will learn about different stones in their rough forms and you will be guided to select appropriate materials for use in your work.  You’ll  then prepare your own stone dust and mixture of colours for use over the 2 days. \nYou will then learn how to inlay the stones into a silver pendant that you have designed and prepared. \nAfter creating your silver pendant by combining soldering and folding techniques. \nOnce introduced to this technique you can explore its endless possibilities and apply it to your making and design process. Not restricted by the common cuts of gems you will discover new freedom in creating visually more complex jewellery. \nWhat will I produce?\nWe anticipate that you will produce a piece of jewellery made up of a series of collets that you will fill with crushed stone inlay. Depending on the complexity of your design\, you may also have time to produce additional items that explore the technique further. \nMaterials\nThe course fee covers the cost of stone materials for crushing\, and for non – precious materials\,. You will also be provided with silver to make your pendant. If you wish to make additional pieces in silver you may bring your own stock\, or we can advise on the purchase of extra materials. \nCan I get my work hallmarked?\nWe are able to offer a hallmarking service for precious jewellery made at Flux. So if you would like to have your work hallmarked with the Flux Studios hallmark this can be arranged at cost price. \nWe’ll provide you with tea\, coffee and light refreshments throughout the weekend. SUMMARY:Decorative Hand Engraving (HE03)
DESCRIPTION:Decorative Hand Engraving for jewellers and silversmiths: Weekend Course.\nBook Now\nDo you like to draw? Are you passionate about fonts? Jewellery often requires surface detail to be revealed\, or a message\, a word or a symbol to be cut into it. On this course we introduce one of the oldest jewellery making techniques – decorative hand engraving. \nWhat will I learn?\nHand engraving requires the use of a hand held cutting tool\, known as a graver\, to cut grooves into metal in order to create a beautiful design. \nThe success of the cut depends as much on the sharpness of the tool as it does on the hand that holds it! With this in mind\, you will learn how to prepare\, sharpen and use a graver in order to create different decorative textures such as cross hatching\, dotting and frosting. \nOnce introduced to this technique you can explore its endless possibilities and apply it to your style. Hand engraving is an amazing skill to learn\, and you can apply it in so many different ways\, from simple to the most elaborate and intricate. \nWhat will I produce?\nIt is anticipated that you will produce a range of progressive practice pieces that also show your evolving skills in lettering\, line and pattern. \nMaterials\nThe course fee includes all tools and materials that you’ll need. We will provide you with copper sheet for practice pieces and samples\, and these are yours to keep. \nAt the end of the course you can also purchase the gravers you have used if you wish\, for an at-cost fee. You’ll ned to bring some lunch \nBook Now \nCourse Tutor: Elena Timbaliuc. An additional tutor will assist if more than 7 students enrol for this course \nStudent numbers: 10 \nWeekend Date:  Sat 24 to Sun 25 March 2018 \nClass Times: 10.00am – 5pm daily \nCourse Fee: \nFull fee £225 \n*Concessions £200 \n*If you are on a low wage\, or in receipt of tax credits or other benefit you qualify for the Flux concessionary rate.
