SUMMARY:Encapsulating techniques for jewellery: watch lenses and related cold connections (B30)
DESCRIPTION:Explore ways to give permanence to delicate objects in your jewellery; encapsulating techniques using methods from resin to watch lenses for jewellery. (Tuesday\, evenings)\n Book Now\nOn this course we explore methods to add secondary and perhaps more delicate elements to your metal jewellery.  Firstly you'll produce a range of tests that explore how to use tabs\, screws and rivets for joining rigid and flexible elements together. By incorporate these encapsulating techniques for jewellery you can create innovative designs.\n\nYou'll also have the chance to experiment with watch lenses for jewellery purposes. Much like a picture frame\, lenses offer the opportunity to protect delicate materials while showing them to their best. You will get the chance to explore 3 types of lense therefore\, that can protect\, magnify or allow movement beneath it. \n\nFinally we will look at the use of resins for small scale jewellery work\, to encapsulate precious materials. \n\nWith the focus on encapsulation each project will also require the development of metalworking techniques. Hence you can expect to develop bezels\, frames and claw or tab settings for your designs.\n\n \tExplore ways to join rigid and flexible materials together using tabs\, screws and rivets.\n \tExperiment with lenses - design and make a pendant\, brooch or ring with an encapsulated precious element.\n \tGiving delicate objects permanence - tapes\, varnishes and resins.  \n\nBy the end of this course you will have produced a reference of samples that explore how you can incorporate delicate or non metalic elements into your jewellery. \n Book Now\nCourse Tutor: Vicky Forrester\nMax student numbers: 10 students \nCourse Dates: 17 April - 26 June 2018.
