Stone Setting Techniques – Make a tension-set ring, learn to set using flush and claw style settings. Extend your knowledge to also make settings for fancy shaped stones. (Evening, Thu).

– This intermediate jewellery course is perfect for those ready to take their stone setting knowledge to the next level.  Learn the principles of tension setting, flush and claw setting. Further extend your skills to learn how to set more unusual fancy shaped stones (trillion, emerald, pear, marquis).

The course is presented in short experimental projects that show how to make settings and how to set stones. These projects help you to consider how to design well for stone – set jewellery.

What will I make?

The course is presented in the following projects:

  • Make a tension-set ring
  • Design and make a flush-set charm
  • Make a claw setting for your stone of choice, and set it.
  • Extension Project – make a setting for a fancy shaped stone, and set it.

What will I learn?

By the end of this course you will have a broad knowledge and experience of stone setting techniques for regular stone shapes. Furthermore will have an overview of how to design and make jewellery using trillion, pear, marquis and emerald cut stones. Then in your final project you will put this knowledge and experience together to make a ring, brooch or pendant that incorporates a fancy – cut stone.
