Is this course for me?
This course is designed as a beginners jewellery making introduction. As such it requires no previous experience in jewellery making. It’s presented in short projects that introduce you to all the core jewellery making techniques, also introducing stone setting as a means to add colour and vibrance to your jewellery designs.
For those having completed other beginner courses at Flux jewellery school we build on skills you have already gained to improve skills and to add new techniques that broaden possibilities for your designs.
Course Dates: 18 April– 27 June
Half term week 28 May – 1 June
- Project 1 – experiment with textures and piercing techniques
- Project 2 – Design and Make a Stone Set Silver Charm
- Extension Project – design and make a silver ring; set a stone on your ring.
By the end of this course you will know how to cut, file and polish metals like copper and silver. You will have samples which show a range of texturing and shaping techniques and you will have gained the fundamentals of stone setting.
During the course you will also learn how to permanently join 2 or more elements together using traditional silver soldering techniques, make a rub-over setting for a stone, set the stone, use wire to make jump rings and other types of attachments for jewellery – and you will have designed and made a charm set with a stone.
