Camberwell-Creative…Wyndham and Comber residents discover hidden talents with Flux Jewellery School

This local TRA gets Camberwell-Creative in an exciting new joint initiative with Flux….

Since Camberwell Arts  put us firmly on the worldwide map of happening places SE5 is becoming well established as the go-to place for creative people. As much as creativity is about making things, it’s about making things happen and earlier this year we were delighted to be approached by Peter from Wyndham and Comber TRA to teach the local residents some jewellery making skills.

Flux member Barbora developed a specialised 10-week programme to suit the requirements of all the residents, beginning with some simple beading techniques. It was not long before her pupils were able to show off their talents…

WCTRA, Flux outreach jewellery classes

Week on week the class was presented with challenges that would stretch their designing and making skills.

By the end of the 10 sessions the class was really getting in to the creative rhythm. Heat-use restrictions meant some processes were off limits, but the group certainly enjoyed swinging a hammer when Barbora introduced punch and hammer work!

It was wonderful to take jewellery making out of the studio, and introduce it to a new group of people. We are always exploring new ways to nurture this seed of creativity within the local community and cannot wait for the next opportunity!

Unleash your Camberwell-creative!
This outreach programme was made possible through a successful Southwark Council grant application by Wyndham and Comber TRA to run social events for residents.
