creative use of orange

Orange Peelings…

I’ve been playing with this project for some years now, whenever I eat an orange or satsuma….

I like that the peeling of these fruit provides a net which can be reconstructed to make a round form. The shape of this net can vary infinitely, but the common to any shape you make, out of these infinite possibilities, is the actual surface area of the net.

I find a quiet satisfaction in the transformation from flat to round.. there is a completeness in these forms that can curl up into a perfect sphere.

It takes concentrated effort to make an entirely new shape as the rush to get to the fruit can override the experimental process, but from S shapes I moved to more abstract forms until finally the process has become less random, more planned, and  here are the results.

I hope you enjoy them!
